  • 1/4 cup milk

  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Decorations (piped flowers, edible pearls)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For frosting, cream softened butter until smooth.
  10. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla extract, until smooth and creamy. Add food coloring if desired.
  11. Once cakes are completely cool, frost and decorate as desired with piped flowers and other vintage-inspired elements.
