- 2 kg ripe tomatoes
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Wash and roughly chop the fresh tomatoes.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the pot.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- For a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender or pass the sauce through a food mill.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot over your favorite pasta.
