Description

Soft and chewy maple cookies bursting with the warm, comforting flavor of maple syrup and a hint of cinnamon. These cookies are perfect for fall gatherings or a sweet homemade treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in the maple syrup until the dough is smooth. If using nuts, fold them in now.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a stronger maple flavor, you can use maple extract in addition to maple syrup.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking if you prefer thicker cookies.
  • These cookies can be decorated with a simple maple glaze or dusted with powdered sugar.
