  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and diced tomatoes with green chilies.
  5. Add chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  6. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For deeper flavor, simmer for 1 hour or longer.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings.
