Description
A simple and delicious homemade applesauce recipe perfect for snacks or baking. This recipe uses natural ingredients and is easy to make.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 medium apples (like Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup apple cider (optional)
- 1–2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Combine chopped apples, water, apple cider (if using), and lemon juice in a large saucepan or slow cooker.
- Cook over medium heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender, about 15-20 minutes. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 2-3 hours or high for 1-1.5 hours, until tender.
- Mash the apples with a potato masher or fork until you reach your desired consistency. For a smoother applesauce, use an immersion blender or transfer to a regular blender.
- Stir in cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Taste and add maple syrup or honey if you prefer sweeter applesauce.
- Let cool before serving or storing.
Notes
- You can use a variety of apple types for different flavor profiles.
- Adjust cinnamon and nutmeg to your preference.
- For a chunkier applesauce, don’t over-mash.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
