Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples
- 6 wooden popsicle sticks
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, shredded coconut
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Continue to cook, without stirring, until the caramel reaches 230°F (110°C) on a candy thermometer. This should take about 5-8 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Dip each apple into the caramel, tilting the pan to coat evenly. Let excess caramel drip off.
- Place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Immediately add your desired toppings before the caramel sets.
- Let the caramel apples cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator until firm.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry for the caramel to adhere properly.
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate caramel consistency.
- Work quickly when dipping the apples as the caramel will start to set.
- Experiment with different toppings for unique flavors and textures.
