Description

Learn how to make delicious homemade caramel apples with easy-to-follow recipes and creative decorating ideas. Perfect for fall, Halloween, or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples
  • 6 wooden popsicle sticks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Continue to cook, without stirring, until the caramel reaches 230°F (110°C) on a candy thermometer. This should take about 5-8 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Dip each apple into the caramel, tilting the pan to coat evenly. Let excess caramel drip off.
  7. Place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Immediately add your desired toppings before the caramel sets.
  9. Let the caramel apples cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator until firm.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry for the caramel to adhere properly.
  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate caramel consistency.
  • Work quickly when dipping the apples as the caramel will start to set.
  • Experiment with different toppings for unique flavors and textures.
