Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans), optional
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats, optional
  • 1/2 cup water or apple cider

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apples. Core each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a well. You can use an apple corer or a small knife.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped nuts, and oats (if using).
  4. Spoon the mixture evenly into the core of each apple.
  5. Place the cored and stuffed apples in a baking dish.
  6. Pour the water or apple cider into the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baking time will vary depending on the size and type of apple.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a sweeter apple, you can add a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to the filling mixture.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • If you don’t have nuts or oats, you can omit them. The apples will still be delicious.
