- 8 cups apple cider
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 8 whole cloves
- 2 whole star anise
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
- Orange slices, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Combine apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise in a large pot or slow cooker.
- If using, stir in brown sugar.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat on the stovetop until simmering, or set your slow cooker to low and cook for 2-4 hours.
- Stir in ground nutmeg during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Strain the cider to remove spices before serving.
- Serve warm, garnished with orange slices if desired.
Notes
- For a stronger spice flavor, add more cinnamon sticks or cloves.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar, or omitting it altogether.
- You can add other spices like cardamom pods or a piece of fresh ginger.
