- 6 pounds apples, cored and quartered
- 2 cups apple cider
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Combine apples and apple cider in a large pot or slow cooker.
- Cook until apples are very tender, about 2-3 hours on high in a slow cooker or 1-2 hours on the stovetop, stirring occasionally.
- Mash the apples with a potato masher or immersion blender until smooth.
- Stir in sugar, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and salt.
- Cook uncovered over low heat or on low in the slow cooker, stirring frequently, until the apple butter is thick and dark, about 2-4 hours more.
- Ladle hot apple butter into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
- Wipe rims and place lids on jars. Screw on bands fingertight.
- Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
